Mirror Mirror on the wall……………is that really me I see?

What do you see in the mirror? Is it a “tell-tale sign” reflecting subtle reminders of the passing years?

Aging is a part of life, so choose to be happy, have fun and never stop being silly, which shouldn’t be too much of a challenge.

Age doesn’t matter unless you want to make an issue of it. Age is just a number, so stop whining and fretting! Don’t let age steal those little joys. Enjoy being a classic and not a stereotypical grumpy old person.

Aging gracefully isn’t all about beauty regimes. It’s also the character we reflect from the inside out and how we embrace wrinkles and grey hair with pride. It’s amazing when the mirror reflects “who we are” with a greater sense of purpose and value.

Don’t stop having fun as “it ain’t over yet.”  I’m so disciplined to having fun that giving up is not an option anymore. It’s for the people around me to handle my eccentricities and nothing to do with me. My schedule is already full. I play stone-deaf to lectures and keep my earphones handy. Being dramatic comes with age, so polishing this skill for a smooth ride ahead.

Getting old has its perks, with no questions asked. When I sense non-verbal communication and see the head nod in disapproval, I flee the scene to avoid drama, spend hours in the rocking chair, have a full-on conversation with myself, send ‘LOL’ in text messages to mean ‘Lots of Love’, eat only when I find the perfect TV show to watch and rehearse arguments in my head. How many of us lower the music in the car when looking for a street address, align our feet to the tiles when walking and more? I’m told of a very endearing notion that the handicap parking logo is for people who want to rush to the restroom. We are likely to get away with almost anything.

The idea of getting old appeals to me because life gets more comfortable, and the best is yet to come. Saying a ‘Senility Prayer’ helps me find happiness within and define what normal is to me.

Building on life lessons with the passage of time has helped with choices that empower me. By conquering fears, believing that I’m stronger and more resilient than I realize, not seeking validation, chasing my dreams, maintaining a great support network, keeping that sense of humour and fostering healthy relationships has made me more accepting of the aging process. A positive mindset and attitude, restores your faith in yourself.

Aging is a wonderful journey and end of the day, it’s all about who we are and how we want to show up!

Don’t get upset when children talk to others about our quirks because their own will do the same one day, “what goes around comes around.”

Laughing Out Loud ‘LOL’– I got it right this time! Happy aging everyone!

How do you feel about growing old?

Well written Sabitha. In fact I enjoy my retirement to do what I feel like,at the same time we shouldn’t forget to keep ourselves fit and healthy.

Dear Sabi, your latest blog – Mirror mirror on the wall’s message is quite apt for the current situation… for instance, I’m in my early 40’s and am finding it a challenge to accept my greys when I look at myself in the mirror. Infact it’s been there for a couple of years, just that I used to colour it frequently to feel confident. However now there’s absolutely no motivation to even apply a face cream 🤦🏻‍♀️as I don’t step out even for a stroll…
*how we embrace wrinkles and grey hair with pride. It’s amazing when the mirror reflects “who we are” with a greater sense of purpose and value.* 👈🏼 these lines are encouraging and I truly wish and hope that I gain this kind of wisdom and composure soon.!!

Thanks Janani. What you focus on grows!

Nice piece Sabita! It’s beautiful not to rush by life….it’s a warm feeling getting past 50…there’s a soothing quietness and sense of calm.
